HACK: FREE Diapers Every Week

At Coupon Mom we track the best diaper deals across all stores and match them with either printable coupons or newspaper coupons. When combined with sales, coupons and possible cash back offers, you can save almost 50% on diapers. But why stop there when you can get them for FREE. Follow these steps to get free diapers every week:

  1. Go to our Free Deals List which shows you the “Free with Profit” items across all stores.
  2. Once you find a deal at one of your stores, click on the store name in the first column to go to the full deals list for that store
  3. Check to see if that store has diapers (Huggies, Pampers, etc.)  listed as a deal that week.  If not, you can check to see which stores in your state have those items on sale.  Just select your State from this list, and then enter the word “diapers” into the search box or the brand of diapers you would prefer.
  4. Go to that stores full list of deals and look for items that are free, or free with a “profit.”  These items will be at the very top of the list.

In many cases, the “profit” from a few items will be enough to cover the cost of the diapers. Let’s look at an example that is very typical:

Store A has Brand X shampoo on sale and Brand Y toothpaste on sale.  After combining coupons and cash back offers, the shampoo will give you a profit of $4 and the toothpaste will give you a profit of $1. Even if you don’t need or want the shampoo/toothpaste, you can buy it and donate it to charity or give it to a friend.  You keep the combined $5 profit, and apply that toward the cost of the diapers.  So if diapers are on sale for $7.94 and you have a $3 coupon, the diapers will cost $4.94.  Apply the $5 profit from the shampoo and toothpaste  and your diapers will be FREE with a 6-cent profit.

This “buy it even if you don’t want it” strategy can work for any item you need to make it free.  So check the Free Deals list on the Coupon Mom site each week and see which stores have items that are free with a profit.  Check the store’s full deals list and see if your favorite items are on sale with coupons too, and buy the profit items to cover the cost of the items you need.

Coupon Scam ALERT UPDATE

Learn how to avoid falling for very convincing retailer coupon scams spreading throughout social media.  Watch this NBC Nightly News segment to learn more.

Key points to avoid falling for a coupon scam from Stephanie Nelson,  CouponMom.com:
–if a coupon offer looks too good to be true (like $75 off a $80 order at a national retailer), stop and question the offer
–if you click through and a survey is required in order to get the coupon, look at the website address.  If it doesn’t match the retailer’s name exactly, close the window.
–if the survey asks for any personal information like credit card, bank account details or even phone number, close the window.  Legitimate retailers would not require that to give you a real coupon.
–still confused?  Go to Google and enter the retailer name followed by “coupon scam” and you’ll probably find details.
–you can always call the retailer’s 800 number to verify if the coupon is authentic.
–FINALLY, there are many great legitimate coupons that can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars a year.  Take advantage of those!

How to Keep Your Groceries FRESH

Have you ever bought groceries to find that they only last you a couple days? Well, here we have a couple of hacks that will help make your produce last a bit longer than we are used to:

1. Lemon Juice on Avocados

You slice up an avocado to put on a salad or sandwich but what do you do with the other half or how do you keep it fresh? The trick with this is just to lightly brush the other half with some lemon juice or olive oil to prevent from browning.

2. Apples and Potatoes

Store an apple with your sack of potatoes to keep them from sprouting.

3. Wrap Bananas

To slow down the ripening process of your banana, try wrapping the stems with plastic and keeping them away from other produce.

4. Berries & Vinegar

Wash your berries in a water-vinegar bath then dry and store in the fridge making sure to line the container with paper towels.

5. Storing Leaving Greens

After washing your leafy greens, wrap them in a paper towel and store them in a plastic ziploc bag. The paper towels will absorb the excess water which will keep the lettuce from wilting.

On your next grocery haul, try using these helpful tips to store your produce. They are simple and easy to do using items we normally have in the pantry.
